#metoo backfires on Indian women

#metoo Backfires on Indian Women

Since 1947, India has been a prey to being charmed by the west. Indians impulsively try to replicate activities of west. Nonetheless, recent ruckus created by the #metoo campaign in India is a lesson about how replicating American ideas can backfire in India. Many Indian women have accused men of sexual assault by using the #metoo. Although, the motive is to get women justice; the opposite has started to happen. Few weeks ago, minister of state for external affairs MJ Akbar filed a case against journalist Priya Ramani for defamation; and there are many more like her.
The problem begins with t@gging the person with the hashtag. Accusations of sexual assault is so severe that it does deep damage to the accused’s reputation. Therefore legally, one has to further their accusations with any legal action. And unlike the American women, we lack legal awareness, and thus, these women have just been using the #metoo without putting any serious thought into it. Once they accuse someone and not follow it up with a legal action, they are liable to being charged under section 499 of the Indian Penal Code, for defamation. Defamation basically means that one is lying in order to ruin their reputation.
In India powerful men can mend their way out of court cases. But women find it hard to gather evidence for an assault committed 20 years ago. Due to the backfiring of the #metoo campaign the credibility of women has started to deteriorate and the women stand ricochetted. It is a takeaway for the several women out there who are courageous enough to voice out their story with the hashtag, that they need to gather a little more courage to fight for their rights in the court.

Watch-out for these designer bags!

By Shalini Sinha Handbags to pick and prick Handbags are that one essential accessory in our wardrobe that needs to be carried with all outside looks. If you are going out, you need to carry a handbag. Just not any handbag but also the one that compliments and personifies your look. Handbags can be tricky as they come in various sizes, colors, and designs. But at times it so happens that, we just do not know what does and what does not. But one way to make your look trendy in fall 2019 is by seeing what is in and what is out. Designer handbags cost a handful, so it is better to not fall for something that is outmoded or soon going to be outmoded. So let's see what is in and out in the pockets.   After yesterday's evening dedicated to handbags, Lakme Fashion Week 2019 has given red and green signals to a lot of designer bags. From what I personally took as hints are what I share with you in this blog. If there is a particular bag that you really like, the...

Layout- The Hindu: editorial

Shalini Sinha   10th September 2019 Proff Kiran Thakur   Principles of Newspaper Editing     The Hindu- Editorials   The Amazon fires, an alarm that lacks proportion T. Jayaraman and Kamal Murari  The effect of deforestation can be repaired slowly. Fossil Fuel emissions cannot be put back into where it came from.   The upsurge of global environmental anxiety over the recent spate of forest fires in the Amazon, apparently marking a renewed push to deforestation, is clearly testimony to the heightened awareness of the danger to human security represented by global warming. The provocatively anti-environmental and climate denial views of Brazil’s President, Jair Bolsonaro, and his colleagues, the reining in of environmental controls if not disabling them, the President’s initial air of unconcern, and his absurd counter-allegations regarding the causes, have all contributed to exacerbating this anxiety. Predictably, this has d...
