Newspaper Analysis
Name Of Newspaper: Hindustan Times
Place Of Publication: Pune/METRO
Price Of Newspaper: Rs 3.00
Date of Publication: 31 July 2018
- What did I find out about the organisation and template of the newspaper:-
- Did not find anything new below the title of the newspaper
- The newspaper is 16 pages with 4 pages supplement
- The left column of 1st page consists of short stories and weather forecast
- There is an anchor of column width 3 on the 1st page
- There are 2 infographics on the 1st page
- Editorial Page:
- The left hand column had the newspaper name and slogan like other two newspapers (The Hindu; Indian Express)
- In my newspaper there were two editorials on the left hand corner. Both stories were 2 paragraphs each.
- In the Indian Express there are 3 stories instead of 2. There is a lot of space given between each story which is absent in my newspaper. Although, without extra spacing, my newspaper’s layout seemed clear and easy to reader. Hence, the spacing in Indian Express looked like waste of space to me.
- The Letter to editor section acts like an anchor in Hindustan Times’ editorial page.
- While Indian express and The Hindu had a caricature of the writers on the top left of each story, Hindustan Times had normal pictures. I believe the caricature made the newspaper look more visually appealing.
- The Indian Express had bold lines and use of different colours to emphasise on division and significant lines. That looked convenient to me. As Hindustan Times still was able to make its layout stand out without the use of colours and bold lines.
- The alignment used in my paper is justified. I think that makes the content looks more formal and clear. The Hindu had aligned to left. That alignment lead to wastage of space.
