Subject: Negligence is not Bliss

Respected Sir,
The recent emerging of the three northeastern states as the HIV hotspots of India has brought the whole debate of HIV back to the floor. There are new findings from Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura, that these states have been catering to many HIV patients in the past few years. Where, India as a whole has been impressively successful in capping and bringing down the number of HIV patients, these three states have the high number of HIV positives due to Injecting Drug Users (IDUs) and unsafe sexual practices. Our world has been indulged extensively in the practice of generalising agendas. It has been almost two years that I have read a feature on a newspaper about HIV. As India capped the problem of HIV, the country, including the readers and the media houses, conveniently generalised and assumed that the HIV problem is curbed everywhere in India. The preventive measures stopped, the awareness articles stopped coming out and we became ignorant of this problem at hand. Now, our ignorance has come to bite us. This is an alarming situation as even the pregnant women are found to be carrying this virus in these states. The North east has been neglected throughout the history of our nation and this stands as yet another example.

Thanking You,
Shalini Sinha

Newspaper Analysis

Newspaper Analysis Name Of Newspaper: Hindustan Times Place Of Publication: Pune/METRO Price Of Newspaper: Rs 3.00 Date of Publication: 31 July 2018 What did I find out about the organisation and template of the newspaper:-   Did not find anything new below the title of the newspaper The newspaper is 16 pages with 4 pages supplement The left column of 1st page consists of short stories and weather forecast There is an anchor of column width 3 on the 1st page There are 2 infographics on the 1st page Editorial Page: The left hand column had the newspaper name and slogan like other two newspapers ( The Hindu; Indian Express) In my newspaper there were two editorials on the left hand corner. Both stories were 2 paragraphs each. In the Indian Express there are 3 stories instead of 2. There is a lot of space given between each story which is absent in my newspaper. Although, without extra spacing, my newspaper’s layout seemed clear and easy to re...

Watch-out for these designer bags!

By Shalini Sinha Handbags to pick and prick Handbags are that one essential accessory in our wardrobe that needs to be carried with all outside looks. If you are going out, you need to carry a handbag. Just not any handbag but also the one that compliments and personifies your look. Handbags can be tricky as they come in various sizes, colors, and designs. But at times it so happens that, we just do not know what does and what does not. But one way to make your look trendy in fall 2019 is by seeing what is in and what is out. Designer handbags cost a handful, so it is better to not fall for something that is outmoded or soon going to be outmoded. So let's see what is in and out in the pockets.   After yesterday's evening dedicated to handbags, Lakme Fashion Week 2019 has given red and green signals to a lot of designer bags. From what I personally took as hints are what I share with you in this blog. If there is a particular bag that you really like, the...

Layout- The Hindu: editorial

Shalini Sinha   10th September 2019 Proff Kiran Thakur   Principles of Newspaper Editing     The Hindu- Editorials   The Amazon fires, an alarm that lacks proportion T. Jayaraman and Kamal Murari  The effect of deforestation can be repaired slowly. Fossil Fuel emissions cannot be put back into where it came from.   The upsurge of global environmental anxiety over the recent spate of forest fires in the Amazon, apparently marking a renewed push to deforestation, is clearly testimony to the heightened awareness of the danger to human security represented by global warming. The provocatively anti-environmental and climate denial views of Brazil’s President, Jair Bolsonaro, and his colleagues, the reining in of environmental controls if not disabling them, the President’s initial air of unconcern, and his absurd counter-allegations regarding the causes, have all contributed to exacerbating this anxiety. Predictably, this has d...
